According to the National Library of Medicine many US households may be storing medications in inappropriate locations.
What makes medicine less effective:
1. Moisture;
2. Humidity;
3. Temperature (too cold or too hot).
Improper locations for storage of medicine include:
1. Kitchens.
2. Bathrooms.
3. Cars.
In all of these locations low temperatures or high heat can destroy the compounds making up medicine. The humidity in bathrooms can affect the coatings on pills.
In order to ensure medication stability, sterility and to avoid undesirable effects people must properly store their medications properly. Also, medications must be stored in safe locations to avoid accidental ingestion by children.
Read the label on your medication and store appropriately.
