It was reported that on July 19, 2018, a duck boat sunk to the bottom of Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri during a windy thunderstorm. There were 31 people aboard. As a result of the incident, 17 people died, where 9 of them were members of a single family. It was confirmed that no one who died was wearing a life jacket.
This is not the first duck boat accident leading to multiple deaths. In 2010 in Philadelphia, a duck boat sunk after it was struck by a barge. That accident killed two people. In 2015, a duck boat ran over a pedestrian killing her. The following year, the company Ride the Ducks suspended operations in Philadelphia due to the increase in insurance premiums. It continues to operate in other cities across the United States.
Fatal accidents can occur with other tourist attractions such as bus tours and boat tours. All passengers should listen to safety instructions closely and use common sense to keep themselves safe.
