According to the US FDA 65 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella have been reported from nine states. States with Cases: CA (2), CO (1), IA (2), IL (11), MI (2), MN (3), UT (1), VA (1), WI (42). Illnesses started on dates ranging from May 23, 2024 to August 10, 2024. Of the 63 people with information available, 24 have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported.

According to the US CDC on September 6, 2024, Milo’s Poultry Farms LLC recalled eggs sold to stores and restaurants in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois.  This included all chicken egg types, such as cage-free, or organic packaged in all cases and carton sizes and labeled with “Milo’s Poultry Farms” or “Tony’s Fresh Market.”  All expiration dates were also included.

Do not eat any recalled eggs. Throw them away or return them to where you bought them. Wash items and surfaces that may have touched the recalled eggs using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.

SYMPTOMS OF SALMONELLA

  1. Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
  2. Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
  3. Bloody diarrhea
  4. So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down

SIGNS OF DEHYDRATION

  1. Not peeing much
  2. Dry mouth and throat
  3. Feeling dizzy when standing up

Symptoms usually start 6 hours to 6 days after swallowing the bacteria.  Most people recover without treatment after 4 to 7 days.  Some people—especially children younger than 5 years, adults 65 years and older, and people with weakened immune systems—may experience more severe illnesses that require medical treatment or hospitalization.
