America was aware of the COVID-19 outbreak in early January 2020, but it took two months until businesses started closing to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

It wasn’t until the end of March 2020 that some states started implementing stay-at-home orders forcing all businesses to close except for essential businesses.

By April 13, 2020, of those tested, Pennsylvania had reported 22,833 cases, 2,203 patients hospitalized and 507 deaths.

By April 13, 2020, of those tested Florida had reported 20,601 cases, 2,694 patients hospitalized and 470 fatalities.

Testing has been primarily available for essential workers on the front line and elderly people who are more at risk. Essential workers still report to work every day to care for the sick and make sure people have food and hygiene products at home.

Lawsuits have been filed on behalf of coronavirus victims who have been hospitalized or passed away due to COVID-19.  The basis of many of these lawsuits include certain businesses, including nursing homes and cruise ship lines, failing to clean their properties properly or close.

If you or a loved one have tested positive for COVID-19 from exposure at work, you should contact an attorney as soon as you can. You may have a claim for workers’ compensation and personal injury.
